SUMMARY:Cream Hand Mixer #0A - Anna Skoromnaya per l'Associazione Frantz Fanon
DESCRIPTION:Areacreativa42 Christmas 2020 solidarity project  \nAt the end of this year\, we realised a project with the artist Anna Skoromnaya\, who donated to Areacreativa42 an edition of the work Cream Hand Mixer #0A from the KINDERGARTEN cycle. In her work\, the artist\, deals with the theme of the denial of the Children’s rights\, and in particular of the child labour. The title “Cream Hand Mixer”\, recurring in many of his works\, which are characterized only by an anonymous progressive number\, brings to the memory a mechanical mixer that turns endlessly\, just like the many nameless children\, who every day are exploited in the world. \nThe photograph\, kept in a folder\, is a fine art giclée print on prestige 340 gsm baryta paper\, made by Studio Bernè of Legnano in 40 copies signed by the artist.  \nThe contribution obtained for the edition\, thanks to the generosity of some members of Areacreativa42\, is intended to support the work of the Associazione Frantz Fanon of Torino\, which has among his purposes to accept requests of help and of care from those minors\, who have experienced discomfort\, misery\, violence and precariousness. \n  \nAnnna Skoromnaya (1986\, Minks\, Belarus) is an interdisciplinary artist working mainly with installations and media based on moving images\, such as videos\, holograms\, figures generated by the use of computers and software. By placing her artistic practice between sophisticated innovative media and deliberately contaminated materials\, Skoromnaya speaks through a language that focuses and exasperates the paradoxes present in our society. Her art\, in fact\, puts the viewer in front of the contradictions of a fairy-tale and ideal dimension with that of a raw reality\, where the contrasts between the advanced technological development and the exploitation phenomena of the most vulnerable persons present in the contemporary world explode.\nWinner and finalist of various national and international prizes (Finalist as representative for Italy at the Biennale d’Arte Contemporanea JCE 2019-2021\, Overall winner of the Arteam Cup 2017\, of the Special Prizes CUBO 2017 and Must Gallery 2016 and of the Special Prize LYNX Art Prize 2015. Finalist for the Premio Novicelli 2016 and 2018 and for the Premio CBM 2015-2016\, semi-finalist at the Premio Laguna 2017)\, she has held solo exhibitions at the Museo CUBO of the Unipol Group in Bologna\, at the Must Gallery of Lugano and in occasion of the fair “The Others 2017” in Torino. Recent group expositions include the exhibitions at Le Beffroi de Montrouge (Paris)\, the Art museum in Vrå – Engelund’s Collection (Hjørring\, Denmark)\, the Art Center “Brewery (Cesis\, Latvia) and at the Centrul de Interes (Cluj\, Romania)\, as well as the exhibition “Stand For Girls”\, held at the Fabbrica del Vapore (Milano) and the curatorial project SAATCHI SCREEN” at the Saatche Gallery (London)

SUMMARY:Luca Freschi for Sculpture Line
DESCRIPTION:Areacreativa42 is a partner in the international Sculpture Line circuit\, hosting a work by the artist Luca Freschi\, that realised an art installation Luca during is artist residence at Casa Toesca. \nCaryatids \nSolemn and suspended in time\, Luca Freschi’s Caryatids stand out in silence. Very tall and fragile figures\, austere and immeasurably immobile\, they are born from the careful and sincere gesture of the artist who in these works\, with admirable care\, made balance the highest exercise of his creative gesture. These works seem a game and perhaps in part they are as they recall the gesture of the child who collects the fine sand damp on the beach and creates spiers\, pushing the ornament of the castles built by the sea to the extreme. And yet\, if the game is about – with all the seriousness that it rightly demands – here the measure is that of art in which the ironic and light-hearted streak is accompanied by the determination of who in life has chosen the arduous and passionate path of beauty. These tall figures have an ancient flavor and welcome in their ostentatious verticality elements of tradition such as busts of statues\, capitals\, fragments of columns or shiny skulls\, to which the artist associates large or small vases with ever new shapes and colors that carry within them the richness of the worlds and cultures of which they bear their mark. And precisely the vases\, sometimes brazenly and immeasurably kitsch\, in their intentional overturning of the forms – because you may no longer know which is the straight and which the reverse\, the top or the bottom of these elegant ready-made – are the most disconcerting element of the Caryatids. In fact\, they bear the powerful sign of transience in being\, in their own way\, a memento mori in the full and incessant fragility of which they are witnesses and because in them the flowers will never again be able to show off their opulence. The Caryatids are poignant and in their sweet melancholy they fully fit into that delicate and honest reflection on life and its transience so dear to Freschi’s poetics. \nGiovanni Gardini

SUMMARY:Johannes Pfeiffer
DESCRIPTION:Johannes Pfeiffer\, originally from Ulm – Germany\, has been a visual artist since the mid-1980s: freeing himself\, as he likes to tell\, from the hardness of marble\, he started the creation of art installations. \nHis installations are typically site-specific\, as they acquire meaning only if placed in the architectural context for which they were designed or created\, as in the case of the work that Rivarolo Canavese was lucky enough to receive in the inner courtyard of the city hall . \nWorking with the space given to him by the territory\, Pfeiffer gradually created “Navis Refugium petentium”: a contemporary work that wants to tell a drama that our era sees in everyday life\, all through a six meters long and hollowed trunk. In this way it takes the form of an elongated boat\, from which eighty-eight cables depart which tend towards a single vanishing point\, united\, as all men should be.

SUMMARY:Stefania Falsone - Close the curtain
DESCRIPTION:Mostra evento della giovane fotografa catanese Stefania Falsone \n  \nCasa Toesca opens its doors to Stefania Falsone and her photographic work produced during the period of artist residency. Stefania is a finalist of the IV edition of Art Prize CBM and this project is part of a speech that starts from the theme chosen for the last edition of the Prize: Forms and subjects of waiting. What Marco Petrocchi has called “the spectacle of oblivion” stages the state of abandonment\, or of partial abandonment\, in which some places of the show located in two towns in the Canavese area: the Patronal theater and the S.S. theater. Annunziata di Rivarolo C.se\, the Perona cinema and the Municipal theater of Cuorgnè. Stefania’s eye makes its way between what remains\, walking slowly and preserving the balance that has taken hold of these buildings now abandoned from their original function. The artist tries to translate the stories that are told to her from the worn armchairs\, from the walls without plaster\, from the fragments of the posters into photography. The time that flows relentlessly on these spaces is imaginary and concrete at the same time: it is the illusion of a reality denied by reality itself. Time is impotence. The walls and the piled objects are the only impassive witnesses of a wearing show. Yet\, if you pay attention\, the buzz of life that animated them still echoes in the deafening silence.\nThe intent is to capture “the silent delicacy” with which life\, protected by the envelope of the walls\, continues to pulsate. “Waiting is an imposition. Yet it is the only thing that makes us physically perceive the wear and tear of time and makes us know its promises “\, wrote Andrea Köhler in his essay The Art of Waiting. This is what happens in these unarmed places\, waiting for something to happen. The exhibition is the moment of verification of the work done during the meeting between Stefania’s creative personality and the Canavese area. The project once again represents a moment of experimentation\, aimed at stimulating a reflection on the image-memory-meaning relationship\, bringing the artist into a completely foreign reality. Starting from the aesthetic path undertaken by Stefania during the award\, it was decided to recover on one hand the stylistic code of the work in competition (i.e. the presence of a female figure who dialogues with the surrounding environment)\, on the other the reflection on the time. This time\, however\, the young photographer had to deal with a dimension of time and expectation far from what had been the room she had set up to serve the theme to be developed. Vice versa\, the current project forced it to measure itself with places that have a collective experience behind it\, which still resists in the various forms of abandonment. The challenge was to be able to overcome these two rocks: the environment totally alien to her\, and the confrontation with spaces that have belonged to the community for decades. An unprecedented approach\, useful to improve the baggage of a career still to be formed. The artist’s residence therefore reconfirms the goal and the will to induce experiential growth that can mutually enrich the guest artist and the territory. \nMaria Riccardi
