Giacomo Montanelli (1996 Florence) is a very young Tuscan artist known thanks to his selection as Under30 finalist of the III edition of Art Prize CBM Turin Prague London. His work, a very small painting on paper, was exhibited in Rivarolo and London at the Christine Park Gallery, indicating the strong interest that the artist had aroused in the international jury of the Prize.
The project for the residence was prepared in the spring and, given Giacomo’s young age, he had to wait until his school diploma in July for the first phase of work. The experience of residency in this case started from the external environment, from the territory of Rivarolo Canavese and in particular from the places “denied”, “Inaccessible”, “absent” because abandoned: the industrial buildings of the two large factories in Rivarolo (Salp and Vallesusa) and the bank of the Orco river.
The artist interpreted these places according to his sensitivity and poured it into an experience of painting, painting on photography and installation. The place of the residence has become the container to tell the outside and later to tell himself.
After completing the first part of the residence, the artist was again hosted at Casa Toesca in October to prepare a personal exhibition documenting his first steps as a young artist in the art world.
“Now”, the first solo exhibition by Giacomo Montanelli, was inaugurated on Saturday 8 October 2016 Areacreativa42.
